Specimen Handling
Allow to clot at room temperature for 15-30 minutes. Remove serum after centrifugation, place in TWO separate plastic transport tubes. For CH50: FREEZE IMMEDIATELY. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Unacceptable Conditions
C3: Excessive lipemia (> 1500 mg/dL) significantly increases the apparent C3 concentration. C4: Excessive lipemia (>250 mg/dL) and rheumatoid factors (>200 IU/mL) significantly increase the apparent C4 CH50: Specimen not frozen; plasma specimen (ascorbic acid, bilirubin, hemoglobin, and lipemic turbidity do not have a significant effect on the measurement)
