Volume

1 mL of saliva absorbed onto test pad then immersed in 3 mL of buffer (Quantisol(TM) collection device)

Minimum Volume

1 mL (NOTE: This volume does not allow for repeat testing)

Specimen Handling

NOTE: The donor should refrain from consumption of food or beverages for a minimum of 10 minutes prior to specimen collection. An oral fluid specimen is collected by placing a cellulose pad affixed to a polypropylene stem (Collector) under the tongue of an individual until a define volume of saliva has saturated the cellulose pad. The defined volume taken up by the cellulose pad is indicated by coloration (blue) in a window on the stem (volume adequacy), approximately 3-5 min. Place the collection pad device into the plastic transport tube provided, pad first. Snap the red cap firmly to ensure that the tube is closed tightly.

Temperature

Maintain specimen at room temperature for transport to laboratory; refrigerate if transport is delayed.
