Specimen Handling
Fill a lithium heparin blood collection tube (minimum volume 6 mL) and gently mix by inverting the tube several times to dissolve the heparin.
Unacceptable Conditions
Whole blood received in any tube type other than lithium heparin; received at room temperature; received greater than 48 hours from time of draw; hemolyzed blood; insufficient blood volume. Under-filled or over-filled tubes; tubes that do not yield sufficient plasma for testing.
Temperature
After collection, the blood can be held at room temperature (17 to 25 degrees Celsius) for up to three hours, and then placed at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for up to 48 hours. Alternatively, blood can immediately be placed at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius for up to 48 hours. *After refrigeration, the lithium heparin tube MUST equilibrate to room temperature (17 to 25 degrees Celsius) prior to the transfer to QFT-Plus Blood Collection Tubes. *Aliquoted QFT-Plus Blood Collection Tubes should be placed in the 37 degree Celsius incubator within two hours of blood transfer. *NOTE: Total time from blood draw to incubation in QFT-Plus Blood Collection Tubes should NOT exceed 53 hours.

Stability
Room Temperature: Up to 3 hours (stability provided by manufacturer or literature reference) Room temperature is defined as 17 to 27 degrees Celsius OR 62.6 to 80.6 Fahrenheit. *Samples should be shipped to the testing laboratory REFRIGERATED.
