Serum Draw a full, 6-mL plain, red-top tube. Allow blood to clot, immediately spin down, remove serum from cells, place serun into an aliquot tube. Label the aliquot tube with sample type (Serum). Send aliquot tube refrigerated. Or: Draw a full, 3.5-mL serum gel tube. Allow blood to clot, immediately spin down, and send entire tube refrigerated. Forward promptly.
Note: Label specimen with two patient identifiers, date, time of collection and collector's identification.
Serum for a trough level should be drawn 30 minutes prior to next dose.
