Unacceptable Conditions

Samples >2 hours that are received at room temperature
Samples with urine preservatives
Samples that are QNS
Leaking sample containers
Specimens contaminated with fecal matter

Temperature

Yellow top tube: Room temperature if sent within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate (at 2-8°C) if >2 hours.

Gray top tube: Room temperature or refrigerated (at 2-8°C).

Stability

Yellow top: 2 hours at room temperature, 24 hours refrigerated (at 2-8°C)
Gray top: 48 hours at room temperature

Macroscopic Urinalysis: Color, Clarity, Specific gravity, pH, Protein, Glucose, Ketone, Bilirubin, Blood, Urobilinogen, Nitrite, Leukocyte esterase
Microscopic Urinalysis: WBCs, RBCs, Epithelial cells, Bacteria
